On Sunday morning, we slept in for a bit, then went downstairs in Ken and Kay's building to the grocery store (which has a little bit of just about everything in it) for some extras/supplies/breakfast.
We went to Jumeira Beach Park (by the Dubai Ladies Clug), rented umbrellas and chairs and went into the water for awhile. The beach and surrounding gardens really were beautiful (sorry I haven't posted pics yet) and the water in the gulf was the perfect temperature.
We stopped at the Mercato Mall where Kay showed us around and we found a gift to bring to our hosts for dinner that evening.
Dinner was a great experience! We were invited to the home of a colleauge of Ken's - Mohammed Baharoon. He and his lovely wife were great hosts and fed us very (VERY) well. After serving us some fantastic fruit juices (blood orange juice is my new favorite) they brought in a huge platter of lamb on rice - a dish that is cooked in an underground oven. We ate it with a tomato based hotsauce, spicy green olives, a shrimp dish, goat cheese and greens salad, and assorted veggies and mint. The lamb was delicious and tender - in fact everything was really very good.
For desert we moved back to the livingroom area and Mohammed presented us with an absolutely gorgeous cake with all kinds of exotic fruits decorating the top and white chocolate surrounding the sides. It was wonderful! (I'm sure I don't have to tell anyone how much I love sweets though...)
While we were there, we also were able to meet their children and nannies - the children were dolls - so adorable! The youngest was about 2, maybe 3 months old and was just so tiny and precious! We really had a great time, and it was great to be able to have an authentic meal with one of Ken's colleauges and get a chance to see a Dubai family at home.
